muzdahira — Blog Platform Rebuild
muzdahira is an Arabic-language blog that needed a reading experience far beyond what stock Blogger themes offer. I built a custom Blogger XML theme from the ground up, adding client-side search, a filterable sidebar, a popular posts ranking module, and modern pagination — all in a fully native RTL layout. The project later evolved into a complete platform migration to a dedicated WordPress site with a custom plugin.
Problem
Stock themes suffered from rigid styling, poor Arabic RTL typography, and crashes caused by missing DOM element assumptions. In the WordPress phase, relying on child-theme PHP overrides would create heavy lock-in and complicate future theme updates.
Solution
Engineered a resilient Blogger XML theme with clean vanilla JS handling search and rankings. For the WordPress migration, architected a standalone custom WordPress plugin encapsulating archive filtering, custom queries, and search logic — keeping the functionality completely decoupled from the presentation theme.
Implementation highlights
- Custom Blogger XML theme with client-side instant search & popular posts ranking
- Native Arabic typography and seamless RTL layout structure
- Zero-downtime platform migration from Blogger to WordPress
- Dedicated WordPress plugin decoupling custom logic from theme templates
Results
Smooth migration preserving all post archives; modular plugin architecture allowing easy future design overhauls without code regressions.
